Medications that RAISE Blood Pressure?

Medications that RAISE Blood Pressure?

For many, medication is an important part of their morning ritual. It helps people get through their day without any major issues. Some medications, however, have the unfortunate ability to raise blood pressure. If you're trying to avoid any problems, proceed with caution with these medications.

Aspirin

One of the most common forms of medication is aspirin. Easily available at stores, this medication is used to decrease fever and various aches. Unfortunately, certain types of aspirin can increase blood pressure by a noticeable amount. This is done by retaining water in your system, which can lead to your blood pressure rising. It can also lead to kidney problems.

Herbal supplements

Many people gravitate towards herbal supplements because they're natural. In 2020, herbal supplements brought in a staggering $10 billion in the United States. While they're a popular choice, they can still tamper with blood pressure. Ginseng, which is the most popular form of herbal supplement, can bring severe issues. Arnica and ephedra are other examples of herbal supplements that can affect blood pressure.

Birth control pills

Birth control pills are used to prevent pregnancy, but some women use them to prevent periods. Some of the most common side effects of the pills include weight gain, mood swings, and migraines. Aside from potential high blood pressure, these pills can also bring blood clots and strokes. To avoid the risk, getting pills without estrogen is the best case.

Antidepressants

Antidepressants are used to help lower depression in individuals. In 2020, antidepressants such as Prozac and Zoloft brought in $26 billion worldwide. Antidepressants work thanks to chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine. Unfortunately, these chemicals are linked to high blood pressure. There are various alternative methods for curing depression, though. Instead of antidepressants, you can exercise, attend therapy sessions, or simply talk to a friend.
